Cool Spring Farm is family-owned and committed to sustainable farming practices. Located 60 miles west of Washington, D.C. in scenic Clarke County, VA, Cool Spring Farm encompasses 109 acres of naturally-alkaline, fertile pastureland nestled in the shadows of the Blue Ridge Mountains.  We raise grass-fed cattle and grow fruits and vegetables with farming techniques that are healthy for our family, our land and water, and for you, our customers.
Lewis and Mary Cassidy purchased Cool Spring Farm in 1960 as an expansion of their small farm near Alexandria. Prior to the purchase, the land was forested and was logged just before the Cassidy family took over. Located close to the Shenandoah River, Cool Spring Farm has fostered memorable experiences for four generations of Cassidys.
With Mary's ranching roots beginning in Oklahoma during the Great Land Rush of 1889, and Lewis's potato farming experience in Northern Maine, the Cassidy family has been growing high-quality beef cattle and unadulterated fruits and vegetables on this spot since 1960.  Mary was a firm believer and early adopter of natural farming methods and never used pesticides, antibiotics, or growth hormones at Cool Spring Farm.  This was the way she was raised and these are the values she instilled in her children and grandchildren.

About Products & Animals

All of our cattle are 100% grass-fed and finished. Our premium Angus beef is raised without the use of antibiotics, artificial growth hormones, GMO grains, or harmful chemicals.  At Cool Spring Farm, our cattle's diet consists of free-range natural grasses, clovers, lespedeza, pure well water, and salt.  The beef is processed under USDA inspection at a Certified Humane facility. It is dry-aged, and then cut and packaged to high standards.  We are also proud to now offer Certified Organic whole chickens.
